Primer - Wall & Ceiling Primer & Undercoat Dark Tones

Wall & Ceiling Primer & Undercoat Dark Tones

The official Farrow & Ball primer for walls and ceilings, specially formulated for use under Estate Emulsion, Modern Emulsion and Dead Flat. Made with the same high-quality ingredients and rich pigments as our topcoats: the essential foundation for a smooth, long-lasting finish.

For which colours?

Dark Tones is the correct base for deep, dark shades such as Hague Blue, Railings or Studio Green, for full colour depth with fewer coats. Farrow & Ball recommends the appropriate primer tone for every colour. You can find it on each colour page under “Recommended Primer”.

Application & Surfaces

Suitable for previously painted walls and ceilings, new plaster, plasterboard, lining paper and filled surfaces. The surface should be clean, dry and sound. Apply by brush, medium pile roller or spray (can be thinned with up to 10% water).

The Farrow & Ball System

One coat of Primer & Undercoat in the recommended tone, followed by two coats of your chosen colour. This creates the full colour depth and durability for which Farrow & Ball is known.

Coverage & Drying

Up to 12 m² per litre per coat (0.75 L ≈ 9 m² · 2.5 L ≈ 30 m² · 5 L ≈ 60 m²). Touch dry in 2 hours, recoatable in 4 hours. Water-based, virtually VOC-free (max. 1 g/l) and with A+ indoor air quality.
