About Dimpse No. 277

The word Dimpse originates from the West Country dialect and describes the color of the sky at twilight. This light gray sits between Pavilion Gray and Blackened in the Farrow & Ball neutral group of architecturally cool grays and features a subtle blue undertone. This makes it particularly effective in modern spaces.

Color effect & light

Dimpse brings calm and spaciousness to any room and provides the perfect base for changing decor. Due to its high pigmentation, the tone shifts with the daylight: softer in the morning, deeper in the evening.

Combine like a pro

The official complementary white for Dimpse is Blackened, which is ideal for ceilings, moldings, and adjoining surfaces. Recommended Farrow & Ball color schemes: All White & Blackened · Pavilion Gray & Manor House Gray · Plummett & Wine Dark · De Nimes & Pitch Black.

The right primer

For optimal coverage and durability, Farrow & Ball recommends the coordinated primer for Dimpse: Primer & Undercoat White & Light Tones.

Available finishes

  • Estate Emulsion: Walls & ceilings, the iconic chalky matte finish (2% sheen)
  • Modern Emulsion: Kitchens, bathrooms, hallways & kids' rooms, washable and moisture-resistant (7% sheen)
  • Dead Flat: Walls, interior wood & metal, ultra-matte for a tone-on-tone look (2% sheen)
  • Flat Eggshell: Interior doors, baseboards, and wood or metal furniture, eggshell finish (20% sheen)
  • Modern Eggshell: High-traffic areas, floors & kitchen cabinets (40%)
  • Full Gloss: Exterior doors, furniture & accents indoors and out, high gloss (95% sheen)
  • Exterior Eggshell: Exterior wood & metal, weather-resistant
  • Exterior Masonry: Facades, masonry & plaster, durable and weather-resistant

Coverage & application

1 liter covers approx. 12 m² per coat; two coats are recommended. All Farrow & Ball paints are water-based, low-odor, and low-emission (A+ indoor air quality). Tip: Use the sample pot (100 ml) to paint generous test patches on at least two walls, as every Farrow & Ball shade changes with the light.
