Is the rug washable and suitable for outdoor use?

The rug is machine washable at 30 °C, and the colors will remain vibrant for a long time. Small sizes fit in a home washing machine, while large rugs are best washed in a commercial-sized machine. It looks just as good in the living room as it does on a patio, balcony, or in a conservatory and is suitable for underfloor heating. The back features an anti-slip coating. In high-traffic areas, we recommend an additional non-slip rug pad.

How thick is the rug?

It is only 3 mm thick. The rug is flat-woven like a kilim and has no pile. This allows it to lie flush under doors and furniture, collects very little dust, and can be folded for transport or storage. If you are looking for a thick, soft high-pile rug, this is not the one for you. In return, you get a clean, low-maintenance surface.

What is the rug made of?

The rug is made of a single material: polyester, of which 70% is recycled PET (rPET). The recycled content increases every year (20% in 2023, 40% in 2025, 70% in 2026), with the goal being 100%. Because no material blends are used, the rug is fully recyclable at the end of its life. The weaving technique was developed and patented by Louis De Poortere in their own R&D department in Mouscron.

What happens to the rug when it has served its purpose?

Once the rug has reached the end of its life, you scan the QR code on the back and Louis De Poortere will collect it free of charge. Rugs in good condition are resold, while all others are processed into new polyester yarn.

Who manufactures the rug?

Louis De Poortere is a fourth-generation Belgian family business that has been weaving rugs since 1929. Every rug is created in their own production facility in Belgium.
