Is the rug washable and suitable for outdoor use?

The rug is machine washable at 30 °C, and the colors remain vibrant for a long time. Small sizes fit in a home washing machine, while large rugs are best washed in a commercial-sized one. It works just as well in the living room as it does on a terrace, balcony, or in a conservatory, and it is suitable for underfloor heating. The back has an anti-slip coating. In high-traffic areas, we recommend an additional anti-slip underlay.

How thick is the rug?

It is only 3 mm thick. The rug is flat-woven like a kilim and has no pile. This allows it to lie flush under doors and furniture, collect little dust, and be folded for transport or storage. If you are looking for a thick, soft high-pile rug, this is not it. In return, you get a clear, easy-care surface.

What is the rug made of?

The rug is made from a single material: polyester, 70% of which is recycled PET (rPET). The recycled content increases every year (20% in 2023, 40% in 2025, 70% in 2026), with the goal being 100%. Because no material mix is used, the rug can be completely recycled at the end of its life. The weaving technique was developed and patented by Louis De Poortere in their own development department in Mouscron.

What happens to the rug when it has served its time?

Once the rug has reached the end of its life, you scan the QR code on the back and Louis De Poortere will collect it free of charge. Well-preserved rugs are resold, and all others are processed into new polyester yarn.

Who makes the rug?

Louis De Poortere is a fourth-generation Belgian family business that has been weaving rugs since 1929. Every rug is created in their own production facility in Belgium.
