Antique Hadschlu Red Brick Carpet

Rug based on the legendary LDP Hadschlu 782, in warm, traditional shades of red and close to the archival original.

The template is the Hadschlu 782, one of the most famous rugs from the Louis De Poortere archive. In Belgium, it was long known as the “notary rug” because it was found in so many law offices. Now the pattern returns as a flat, washable weave.

Is the rug washable and suitable for outdoors?

The rug can be machine-washed at 30°C, and the colors will remain vibrant for a long time. Small sizes fit in a home washing machine, while large rugs are best washed in an industrial-sized machine. It works just as well in the living room as it does on a patio, balcony, or in a conservatory, and is suitable for underfloor heating. The backing is coated with a slip-resistant finish. In high-traffic areas, we recommend an additional anti-slip pad.

How thick is the rug?

It is only 3 mm thick. The rug is flat-woven like a kilim and has no pile. This allows it to lie flush under doors and furniture, accumulate little dust, and be folded for transport or storage. Those looking for a thick, soft high-pile rug will not find it here. In return, you get a clear, easy-care surface.

What is the rug made of?

The rug consists of a single material: polyester, 70% of which is recycled PET (rPET). The recycled content increases every year (20% in 2023, 40% in 2025, 70% in 2026), with a goal of 100%. Because no material mix is used, the rug can be fully recycled at the end of its life. Louis De Poortere developed and patented the weaving technique in its own R&D department in Mouscron.

What happens to the rug when it has served its purpose?

Once the rug has served its purpose, you scan the QR code on the back and Louis De Poortere will collect it free of charge. Well-preserved rugs are resold, while all others are processed into new polyester yarn.

Who manufactures the rug?

Louis De Poortere is a fourth-generation Belgian family business that has been weaving rugs since 1929. Every rug is created in the company's own production facility in Belgium.
