Floor lamps stand freely in a room and only require a power outlet: they provide reading light by an armchair, brighten dark corners, and supplement ceiling lights with soft light at eye level. The selection comes primarily from Frandsen with FM 1954, Ball Double, Lyss, and the Grasp Portable battery-powered lamp, as well as from Living Nordic with models featuring linen shades or marble bases.
Which floor lamps are available?
Reading lamps with metal shades such as FM 1954 or Lyss by Frandsen direct light specifically downward; with Lyss, the shade can be adjusted. You can find the perfect spot for them among our lounge chairs.
Floor lamps with fabric shades such as Watton by Living Nordic with a linen shade provide soft, glare-free ambient light.
Lamps with a marble base such as Sheffield are particularly stable due to their weight.
Cordless battery-powered lamps such as Grasp Portable can be placed wherever there is no power outlet. According to the manufacturer, it is also built for the patio and garden.
Other lamp types:Table lamps for sideboards and bedside tables, wall lamps for hallways and beds.
Buying a floor lamp: What to look for
Reading light: Position the lamp to the side behind or next to your shoulder. This way, the light falls on the book without glaring or casting shadows.
Height: The lower edge of the shade should be roughly at shoulder to eye level when seated, i.e., about 100–120 cm above the floor. This prevents you from looking directly into the bulb.
Dark corners: Light directed upward or toward the wall is reflected by light surfaces and makes the room appear larger.
Light color: Warm white light around 2,700 Kelvin feels cozy in the living room. For reading, the lamp can be brighter than for ambient room lighting.
Dimmable or switchable: Dimmable models adapt to your needs, bright for reading and dimmed for the evening. A foot switch is convenient if the lamp is behind the sofa.
Stability: A heavy base, such as one made of marble, securely holds even wide-reaching shades.
Material & Care
Wipe metal bases and shades with a soft, dry cloth. Clean marble only with a damp cloth and without acidic agents like vinegar or citrus cleaners, as acid damages the stone. Carefully vacuum linen shades using the upholstery attachment. Switch off the lamp and let it cool down before cleaning.
